Julie Klapstein was the founding CEO of Availity, the industry leader in optimizing the automated delivery of critical business and clinical information among healthcare stakeholders. Julie was the CEO and board member of Availity for 11 years. Since its inception in 2001, Availity has become one of the largest health care networks in the country. During Julie's tenure, the company expanded to over 4 billion transactions per year and included over 16,000 provider offices and nearly every payor in the country. During Julie's leadership, the product line grew from a multi-payor web portal between payers and providers to a full claims clearinghouse and revenue cycle management solution. Julie selected and worked with her successor for five years and then retired from Availity in 2011.
Julie's 30+ years of experience in the health care information technology industry includes executive roles at Phycom, Inc as CEO, payer based IT systems for case management; Sunquest Information Systems (EVP), a laboratory information system for hospitals; SMS' Turnkey Systems Division Executive Director (now part of Siemens Medical Systems) and VP and General Manager of GTE Health Systems, hospital information system for mid-size hospitals. Her early career was with AT&T Information Systems for 10 years focusing on the healthcare industry primarily in sales, marketing, and product management.
She currently serves on the board of directors of Revecore, focusing on complex claims in hospital revenue cycle management; Amedisys, (AMED), focusing on home health, hospice, and personal care; Nextgen (NXGN), focusing on revenue cycle management and electronic medical records for provider practices; Oak Street Health (OSH), a value-based health system focusing on Medicare patients and MultiPlan (MPLN) focusing on health cost management solutions for the health insurance industry. Julie was a past director for two public boards and multiple private boards including eSolutions, a revenue cycle management company that had a highly successful exit in October 2020. Julie chairs the Compensation Committee for two public companies and is on the Nominating and Governance, Quality, Compliance, and Audit Committees for four public companies.
Julie earned her bachelor's degree from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. She is the recipient of multiple awards for top business leaders in Florida. She resides in Port Angeles, WA, and also has a home in Cambria, CA.
